[ICN-290] Questions for 3 host + jumphost install (baremetal/not vm)

                <project id="10400" key="ICN">Integrated Cloud Native NFV</project>

Hi,

I am getting ready to install ICNR2 using 4 Dell 740xds. I have a few questions:

Can we use different vlan numbers, or must the vlans be labeled as listed in your documentation: 110,111,112, etc.?
Is network bonding supported.? We usually bond two nics.
What does the IPMI Interface refer to? Is that IPMI interface on the jumphost ? In our lab, the IPMI network is not segregated. A specific IPMI interface is not needed; it is handled by routing. Will not having a specific IPMI interface work with this install?
To clarify, DHCP is NET B interface?
What is the purpose of DMZ, vlan 111? Our routing will let the public network (Net A) download packages from the internet. Is that enough?

High-level recap of what I understand the steps to be:
1. create bionic jumphost.
2. configure all network vlans, etc.
3. update user_config.sh with correct interfaces and networks
4. create node.json file
5. git clone "https://gerrit.akraino.org/r/icn"
6.  cd icn/
7.  Makefile
8. make install
9.  wait..

Let me know you testing with VLAN tagging networking. I will support if there is any issue with the setup.
</comment>

Sorry for the delay. We can organise a meeting to go through the details in your setup ? 3TB HDD is fine for the setup.

With regards,

each node would have
bond1 - Net A (vlan 1115), Net C (vlan 114)/IPMI,Storage (vlan113)
eno3 - Net B (vlan 112/DHCP)
enp135s0f0 (or a bond of enp135s0t0 and f1) - SRIOV

If this won't work, its OK. Eager to install ICN, switch changes will add time, that's all.

One more question, the 3TB HDD the node's reguire is that exact or can it be larger?

Same question re: S3TB (Sata) and 180 (SSD) , are those minimum requirements or exact? Can they be larger?

Thank you,
</comment>
                            <comment id="11132" author="r.kuralamudhan" created="Wed, 4 Mar 2020 22:48:16 +0000"  >
Hi cb371j

Can we use different vlan numbers, or must the vlans be labeled as listed in your documentation: 110,111,112, etc.?

[Kural]No, it is not required to have vlan number. As long as your network net B and net C/A are different. The setup works
Is network bonding supported.? We usually bond two nics.

[Kural]I like to understand more detail - In which network, you want to create bond ? Could you please explain it
What does the IPMI Interface refer to? Is that IPMI interface on the jumphost ? In our lab, the IPMI network is not segregated. A specific IPMI interface is not needed; it is handled by routing. Will not having a specific IPMI interface work with this install?

[Kural]No, we don't require IPMILAN network(Net C) as separate. Both the provider network(Net A) and IPMILAN(Net C) can be the same network. Just make sure, you can do ipmitool -I lanplus -H <IPMI ADDR> -U <USERNAME>-P <PASSWORD> chassis status from the jump server, it means the you IPMI LAN connection is working in your setup
To clarify, DHCP is NET B interface?

[Kural] In the rack, we identify the servers using the MAC address. DHCP server installed in the jump server, by which we IP ADDR are assigned to the Server and We check the MAC address of DHCP and Ironic CR to check whether the server is provisioned and IP address is assigned. Then we use KUD Multi cluster installer to create the cluster in that edge location.
What is the purpose of DMZ, vlan 111? Our routing will let the public network (Net A) download packages from the internet. Is that enough?

[Kural]Yes, that is enough.
</comment>
